The academic background necessary for an Oracle DBA job is a bachelor’s degree in IT, IS, or CS. To boost their resume, candidates can also opt for Oracle Database certifications. There are plenty of them spanning various fields like operating systems, applications, databases, and enterprise management. Any of these certifications make the job seeker more marketable. 

Responsibilities And Duties Of An Oracle DBA

The primary duty of an Oracle DBA is to organize and store data. The company relies on the database administrator to securely and efficiently manage their data using Oracle’s solution. 

Some other responsibilities that fall under the purview of DBAs are:

  • Managing capacity planning
  • Evaluating server hardware
  • Handling database installation along with configuration

They also manage data migration, monitor performance, data recovery, backups, and troubleshoots. Some of the tasks a DBA may be asked to perform comprise of:

  • Patching and maintaining Oracle databases.
  • Creating SQL query or shell script.
  • Maintaining PL/SQL queries. 
  • Providing support for maintenance of systems. 
  • Extracting, transforming, and loading data.
  • Verifying backups.
  • Performing ad-hoc backups. 
  • Fine-tuning database.
  • Performing authentication measures.

Besides the abundant demand for Oracle jobs like DBAs, the salary that comes with the position is decent. Oracle DBAs can earn anywhere from $80,000 to $150,000 in a year, making it a good job for seekers.
